IWRM MSc Joint Exchange Program

with focus on the Middle East and Northern Africa region (MENA)

A cooperation between German Jordanian University (GJU) and Technische Hochschule Köln

Current global trends such as population and economic growth as well as climate change exert increasing pressure on water resources worldwide, which are the basis for food production, urban and industrial water supplies, and hydropower. Experts are needed who understand that multiple problems of water resources management can only be addressed through a holistic approach considering both technical and socioeconomic problems of resources use. These experts should also have knowledge of the practices of project funding and international cooperation.

For bilateral projects between Germany and countries in the MENA region, there is a need for experts being familiar with the culture, language and politics of both sides and are skilled in intercultural communication.
The MSc »IWRM« has the objective to form such experts and to promote the concept of IWRM in the context of German-Arab cooperation.

Please note that this Study program requires:

  • Obligatory semester exchange at GJU in Jordan (in 3rd study semester)
  • Master thesis with a thematic focus on a MENA region under the joint supervision of both university partners

What do we expect?

In order to participate, you should

  • be highly motivated to learn and work in a bicultural (German-Arab) environment
  • have a professional or academic background related to the water sector
  • be fluent in English (TOEFL ibt 79 point or academic IELTS Band 6)
  • be willing to take up leadership positions in the future

Application Deadline

Foreign applicants: until March 31st each year for the winter semester of the same year.

German applicants: until June 10th each year for the winter semester of the same year.

DAAD Scholarships: Applicants from DAC-list countries can apply for the Master program until November 15th each year for the winter semester of the following year.

Welcome Day / Graduation Ceremony

Sep 26, 2023 (Tuesday)

  • 9.45 a.m. – Welcome New Bachelor Students
  • 11.30 a.m. – Welcome New Master Students
  • 3.00 p.m. – Graduation Ceremony (M. Sc.)

All three events will take place at the Campus Deutz, lecture hall 3
